Sasha Stone knows her place—first-chair clarinet, top of her class, and at the side of her oxford-wearing boyfriend. She’s worked her entire life to ensure that her path to Oberlin Conservatory as a star musician is perfectly paved.

But suddenly there’s a fork in the road, in the shape of Isaac Harver. Her body shifts toward him when he walks by, her skin misses his touch even though she’s never known it, and she relishes the smell of him—smoke, beer, and trouble—all the things she’s avoided to get where she is. Even worse, every time he’s near Sasha, her heart stops, literally. Why does he know her so well—too well—and she doesn’t know him at all?

Sasha discovers that her by-the-book life began by ending another’s: the twin sister she absorbed in the womb. But that doesn’t explain the gaps of missing time in her practice schedule or the memories she has of things she certainly never did with Isaac. As Sasha loses her much-cherished control, her life—and heart—become more entangled with Isaac. Armed with the knowledge that her heart might not be hers alone, Sasha must decide what she’s willing to do—and who she’s willing to hurt—to take it back.

Holy. Shit. As I said in my initial review of this book on Goodreads, I seriously don’t know what to think about this book and it’s been more than twelve hours since I’ve finished it. I’ll be honest when I dug this book out of my book subscription box I was a little disappointed. I was really hoping that the October book was going to be There’s Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins. But after reading the summary of this one I was kind of intrigued. And even as I started it things were mounting. The whole bad boy Isaac thing was interesting especially because she didn’t remember giving him her number.

Even her interacting with Isaac was just marvelous. But when she starts to reason why things got really weird. The whole absorbing the twin in the womb thing was just…whoa. But to think that was the reason for her strange behavior, that her unborn twin was rebelling and taking over that was just…I hate to say the word crazy, but… To me it sounded like multiple-personality disorder. And after all of that, things just went downhill.

It wasn’t until Sasha jumped out the window that I started to wonder if this was more than just a dark, paranormal romance. And when Sasha has that ‘break through’ moment with her therapist, I really knew something was off. But that ending! *shiver* I’m extremely squeamish so whenever things get a little too bloody for me I start losing feeling in my feet. And even though I’ve finished this book almost a day ago now, I don’t think I’ll ever forget that ending. Ever. Gah.

Final Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. This book was perfect for this time of year. It was dark and suspenseful and romantic. And I’m still a little bit mystifed as to what was really going on with Sasha there. Althought i have a few guesses.
