The Summer King is missing; the Dark Court is bleeding; and a stranger walks the streets of Huntsdale, his presence signifying the deaths of powerful fey. Aislinn tends to the Summer Court, searching for her absent king and yearning for Seth. Torn between his new queen and his old love, Keenan works from afar to strengthen his court against the coming war. Donia longs for fiery passion even as she coolly readies the Winter Court for battle. And Seth, sworn brother of the Dark King and heir to the High Queen, is about to make a mistake that could cost his life. Love, despair, and betrayal ignite the Faery Courts, and in the final conflict, some will win . . . and some will lose everything.
After three years, I finally finished this crazy series about faeries. Book 5, like books 1 and 3, covers our main characters – The Summer King and Queen. Keenan is missing, but he hasn’t been taken by anyone. You learn fairly quickly that after what happened in book 3, he went off on his own to figure out what he wanted. Not just as a king, but as a faerie. Ash is handling the Summer Court well in his absence and only wishes that he will return because of what is going on with Niall and Bannach. War is threatening and she needs her King. Especially because Seth isn’t really seeing her these days, not until she chooses, which man she’ll be with.
Out of all five books in this series, I think this one was probably my favorite. It was still kind of crazy – not everything was given full explanations – but after reading four books like that, it was mostly expected. But this book finally really had a good climax. The war with War herself and how she tore most of the courts apart before she attacked and became Queen was quite interesting to read about. I think my only complaint was how easily everything worked out. Considering it was a battle with War/Discord, you would think there would have been more losses of the MC variety. Sure, my heart stopped for a minute when Donia was attacked and almost killed, but of course, because of PLOT, she was brought back thanks to Keenan and the Death faerie himself. When did all these faeries start popping out of the woodwork?
Final Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. I wish there had been some heavier losses on the side of our heroes. Even Irial’s death from the last book was rewritten so he became the new Discord. But, it was still a nice wrap up of the series.
