Series: Internet Girls
Date Started: October 4

ttyl follows the friendship of three fifteen-year-old girls, Angela (SnowAngel), Maddie (mad maddie), and Zoe (zoegirl), through instant messaging as they try to maneuver the roller coaster ride of tenth grade, with its boy temptation, donut runs, driving lessons, math torture, and queen bee encounters. The winsome threesome handles it all. Then life suddenly jumps the tracks. A jerky boy sends peppy Angela into the dumps. Tough Maddie makes a mistake that has the whole school talking. And good girl Zoe ends up in over her head with a flirty teacher. Just when they need one another most, their friendship seems ready to fall apart.

I first read this book 12 years ago when I was 13 and IM’ing was all the rage. This book was different because it wasn’t in the normal narrative of YA books. It was told completely through instant messages. Thirteen-year-old me thought that was totally cool and now twelve years later it still kind of is, it also makes for a very quick read. However, you can tell that I’ve gotten a little old for the ‘Internet Girls’ because I just want to reach inside the book and shake them for being so…teenagery. There’s more to life than boys and who said what in high school. Really.

Final Rating: 3 out of 5 stars. The character of Angela still cracks me up and I can help but think of someone I know who reminds me of her everytime I read her IMs. Maddie is very sullen and falls into the popular trap way to easily. And Zoe, is too naive for her own good. However, after the heaviness of some books that I’ve been reading lately, this one was a nice quick read.
