Ember Hill is on the run from her dragon association Talon, who had big plans for her and didn’t want to let her go. She’s also on the run from St. George, a dragon hunting organization, that wants her dead. The only reason she was able to escape with her life was because the guy she had been seeing while in Crescent Beach – Garrett – was part of St. George and helped her to escape. Finding out his true identity was a blow to her, but that doesn’t stop her from going back to try and rescue him from certain death.

Riley – the dragon she escaped with – thinks this plan is outrageous. Why would she willingly go into the enemy’s nest especially when it could get her killed? But he knows better than to stop her, and agrees to come along to help out. However, once they’re all free they need to keep running from Talon because they’re quickly gaining on their heals. But Garrett isn’t the only person she left behind when she ran. Her brother Dante is still with Talon and is working for them to get Ember back. No matter what.

This book was action packed and never really seemed to stop. Just when you thought Ember and the gang could relax a little bit something else came along that would get them moving again. I still liked Ember’s character the most. She’s badass and stubborn and she hates sitting out on the sidelines. Garrett’s character was interesting in the sequel since he decided that St. George was wrong and he worked with the dragons instead of against him. Riley, on the other hand, annoyed the crap out of me. While it was cool to see what happened to him twelve years ago, I didn’t like that he kept talking down to Ember, and the only time he didn’t was when he realized that he had feelings for her. Grr…this was one book series I was happy not to have a love triangle in, and of course, it gets written in. Though, I’m not sure how much of a love triangle is left when Garrett took off for England at the end. Hm…

Final Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. The mystery continues to thicken. Why did St. George decide to team up with Talon to take out (or take in) Ember? What exactly was going on in that epilogue? And with Ember finally deciding that humans and dragons can’t be together, does that mean she chooses Riley? I’m curious to know…
